John Titor's story remained relatively obscure until the last few months of 2003, but increasing notoriety has attracted many poseurs and pretenders, so don't be surprised to see some peculiar diversions and various types of deceptions in online discussions about John Titor. Somebody thinking they're cute will masquerade as Titor (one phony posted the homepage text of this web site at http://www.curezone.com/forums/m.asp?f=172&i=157 for example; another clown going by the handle of "Anonymous Coward" routinely cuts and pastes text from this site onto boards as if it was his own, see http://godlikeproductions.com/bbs/aitem.php?message=246385&show=0104&searchstring=titor). Or "new" Titor material will be fabricated and quoted without any source reference (see some examples below). Frequently, self-styled debunkers will either fail to read all the material and misrepresent what JT said, or they may fabricate ridiculous interpretations of the material to argue against. Some will flatly announce that "this story has already been proven to be a hoax" but when pressed cannot say how it was ever proven false or even who said so. They tend to assume an air of superiority and may become frankly abusive toward those who fail to accept their premature conclusions in favor of keeping open minds. Some debunkers exhibit purest arrogance, delivering their premature judgments as if they were infallible (see http://www.curezone.com/forums/m.asp?f=172&i=160 for example), as if by their peremptory pronouncement the matter is thereby settled. Some of them are clearly motivated to spread disinformation:

Moreover, particularly with respects to public forums such as newspaper letters to the editor, and Internet chat and news groups, the disinfo type has a very important role. In these forums, the principle topics of discussion are generally attempts by individuals to cause other persons to become interested in their own particular position, idea, or solution -- very much in development at the time. People often use such mediums as a sounding board and in hopes of pollination to better form their ideas. Where such ideas are critical of government or powerful, vested groups (especially if their criminality is the topic), the disinfo artist has yet another role -- the role of nipping it in the bud. They also seek to stage the concept, the presenter, and any supporters as less than credible should any possible future confrontation in more public forums result due to their early successes. You can often spot the disinfo types at work here by the unique application of "higher standards" of discussion than necessarily warranted. They will demand that those presenting arguments or concepts back everything up with the same level of expertise as a professor, researcher, or investigative writer. Anything less renders any discussion meaningless and unworthy in their opinion, and anyone who disagrees is obviously stupid -- and they generally put it in exactly those terms.

Relax, the vast majority of these 'debunkers' are only self-important blowhards spouting unsupported opinions. The fact of the matter is that no one has yet found a way to prove John Titor's story either true or false. It is also a fact that keeping an open mind is in almost all cases smarter than jumping to premature conclusions.

Naysayers have always been an inevitable part of the landscape (man will never fly, the earth is flat not round, my holy book proves science wrong, et cetera). Just be glad they can't still burn you at the stake for having unauthorized ideas. The only naysayers to be concerned about today are the ones with hidden agendas, since you have no idea what their real intentions are. Those with hidden agendas can sometimes be recognized by their self-contradicting tenacity, coming back again and again to discuss a topic they will strongly profess can only be completely bogus and unworthy of further discussion. Except they do want to keep discussing it, at least until the discussion dies out, and killing discussion threads seems to be their main objective. Some get quite amusingly carried away in their attempts to either discredit JT's story or discredit the value of keeping an open mind! So on one level they clearly telegraph the extent of their personal investment by the time and energy they spend, but on the surface they'll claim the topic of John Titor is hardly worthy of their attention. On one forum I visited there were several personas of this stripe that shared some common traits so strongly that it became obvious they were either one person with several aliases or one small group working together very closely. I never learned exactly what the hidden agenda was, but it was clear there was one. Some agendas become obvious, but some will inevitably remain hidden.

One particularly pigheaded form of "debunker" is the right-winger who reacts with denial to the John Titor story because of what it implies about George Bush Junior's abysmal leadership and his pushing for an American police state (i.e. torture as a matter of policy, indefinite incarceration without trial, and suspension of Habeas Corpus for anyone he chooses to call an 'illegal combatant'). The psychological coping mechanism of denial makes them blind to the "Patriot" Act's trampling of civil liberties, to thousands of people including some American citizens already being imprisoned indefinitely without charges or a court hearing or even access to an attorney, blind to American concentrations camps operating at Guantanamo and in the Mideast, and blind to the immorality of preemptive attacks even after the lessons in evil of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and Hitler's European invasions. Naturally they are blind to the Bush Administration lies about Weapons of Mass Destruction, and may even express certainty that John Titor was a fraud at the same time they will say "we just haven't found the WMD's yet"! No, the radical right doesn't want to see things as they really are at all, and they will engage in extreme denial to protect themselves against any such perceptions of reality. They act like ushers of the American police state all the while they deny that such a thing appears to be slowly unfolding before our eyes! But if you've got your eyes open and aren't fooled by addle-brained, hate-filled, chemically-dependent right wing propagandists like Rush Limbaugh, it should be obvious to you by now that America has been going rapidly downhill in the direction of a police state ever since the 9/11 tragedy spawned the ironically misnamed "Patriot" Act. Present indicators that America is moving toward a police state don't prove John Titor's story true yet because it is still a bit too early to tell, but keep in mind that John Titor's story was presented BEFORE the September 11, 2001 attacks, so it can't be logically argued that his predictions of an American police state and civil war are logical extrapolations from the "Patriot" Act and other subversions of American democracy. It's worth also keeping in mind that JT's story doesn't necessarily have to be true in order for America to become a police state.

Besides the radical right there are some other very powerful interests that may feel threatened by John Titor's story. The meat and dairy industries aren't likely to take kindly to his revelations about Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease for example, and we may yet discover them investing some effort and money toward debunking the "myth". My personal opinion is that such threatened groups or other organizations like the Republican National Committee may already be paying people to sit at computers all day attempting to debunk the story online, to nip it in the bud. I hold that opinion because it seems the only reasonable explanation for some of the fanatically persistent debunkers that I have personally dealt with. Some of them get very emotional, you'd think their livelihood depended upon successfully defusing the power of Titor's story. Certainly denial of the horrors Titor described is a factor for some people too, motivating them to want Titor's story declared a fraud right away for their own peace of mind. The reason such attempts can only fail is that John Titor's story stands on its own at this point, neither proven nor disproven, and a rational and objective person who looks at the evidence has to realize that it is impossible to either prove it true or false at the present time. Even if Titor's story could be proven false, that would not invalidate the very real needs of avoiding becoming a police state, not letting CJD become epidemic, and above all not having a global nuclear war.

So no matter what the various debunkers and clowns say, the time to judgement is going to pass quickly and we are all going to learn the truth as it emerges from its cloud of mystery. Only fools jump to premature conclusions, don't you be one. Keep your mind open and don't let the various con artists and self-styled debunkers sway you from being rational and objective. It is simply too important to not see coming if the story is true, and if it's false, well at least we have an early start on a design proposal for a time machine when CERN starts cranking out microsingularities as expected. Let us hope that if Titor's story is true, that we may have already begun to significantly alter our worldline from the one he knew.

Not every Titor-debunker is a blowhard with a hidden agenda, of course. I have seen some very worthy attempts to debunk Titor's story on the basis of fact and reason, which are usually recognizable by their conspicuous absence of random emotionality and name-calling coupled with a sincere desire to discover the truth of the story. The folks who run anomalies.net seem to be entirely honest and objective in their desire to know the truth for example, without any hint of a hidden agenda. Blowhards on the other hand are not difficult to spot by their emotionality and 'my mind is made up' demeanor; you may even observe them harping on people being "gullible" for withholding judgement or giving any credence at all to John Titor's story (they fail to recognize that a premature rejection of something that may indeed turn out to be true is just another type of gullibility in which the null case has been too easily swallowed !). Titor imposters are usually just childish clowns but may in some cases be deliberately attempting to dilute the power of Titor's story: if some con artist imposter manages to convince a few people that he's John Titor come back to our time for example, then he can reveal himself and crow that the original story is obviously just as bogus as his was, right? Well apparently there are some losers out there with nothing better to do, trying to do just that. I recommend that you let them have their fun and don't waste too much of your time with them because it isn't productive. You can easily put imposters to the test if you want to.

Below are some examples of supposed John Titor-related material that were sent to me in an email. Much of it appears Titor-ish and may be interspersed with real material, but it appears to be probably all phony and mostly lacks any usable references. Take the message that's supposedly from JT's mother for example; it is just not likely that someone wanting to disappear would come online to notify everyone that they have done so. I will try to post other examples occasionally too, but use these as examples for now of what you shouldn't necessarily take at face value.

To Whom It May Concern:

John was indeed real and appeared to have knowledge of events in our future. I am aware of the angst his words have caused some of you and for this I apologize. I do not think John expected or wished for his presence to become an online myth. Before he left, John warned us about certain events he thought would unfold. They have.

John?s world was engulfed by war and suffering. His major concern in this world was for us, his family. While he was here, he did and said many things we did not understand. In spite of the differences between our worlds, his pessimism about our ability to avert a civil war was always evident.

John asked us to be vigilant concerning the residual effects the 2000 election would have on this country. Although he expected the same disruptions and arguments over the election process, his one bit of optimism concerned the courts future ability to let an election proceed. Apparently, in California, it has and it will. For me, this is the event John spoke about that would possibly avert civil disorder and conflict. Only time will tell.

John asked us to videotape his departure. We did and it was sent to several people who have apparently decided not to release it. Anything else John wrote or left behind with us was destroyed or is in the care of an attorney.

For us, it is over. We have since moved away from Florida and our son is safe and unaware of these events. We plan to keep it that way and hope you will respect our wishes.

This will be my final internet posting before the beginning of the coming multi-year downturn which I referenced in various newsgroup posts two years ago, as my temporary return to this specific point in time (November 23, 2003) was intended to allow me to put forth one last critical warning. Although the civil war will not begin until 2005, the events leading up to it will consist of the start of an economic depression, a political upheaval, an enormous escalation of both national and international tensions, and the realization that the "good times" so selfishly expected and felt deserved by your current generation not only came to an end in the year 2000, but have truly only BEGUN to corrode.

Plan for what is ahead. As they say (both in this time and in mine), "better safe than sorry."

Hello again.  I am a time traveler from your future of 2036.  To many of you it may seem I have returned but I haven't left by what would be considered the standard.  I have had trouble reconciling my time lines as some of you had forseen.  I would still be interested in correspondance but I could use the encouragement and skills of a qualified physicist.  I am caught in a precarious situation at this present.  Please no email this time because I am not as safe as I thought previously.  Any help appreciated.

This has become a very angry place since I left.  It is a bad idea on my part to start this all up again.  Those who asked serious questions I will answer to the best of my ability.  Does this group frequently have time travelers visit?  Seems they may have upset every one.  When I left to go back the computer I brought back with me did not work in the capacity we originally planned.  It may have been the speed or the air compression in my truck. I can only speculate.  Getting me back to my current year of 2036 did not go as planned either.  As you can see, the limited ability of time travel even in my tme period has still many problems.  Upon returning I found my self gravely ill and extremely weakened.  I have endured twice short stays in the military hospital.  The plagues that has destroyed so many are still active. When its our time to die we dont receive the extended health care. For the reason of the physical body weakened when the third person travels between lines I was asking for the help of a qualified physicist.  Though I asked for no emails, I did receive many and amongst them were 2 who claim to be physicists.  Theirs will be the only ones I will reply to.  I even received email from someone also claiming to be capable of time travel but does it without the need of equipment!.  I will have to check this one out personally.  I hope for his sakes he doesnt post here.

My stay will be very short this final time.  I would not of posted but I am putting out the warning to those who seek alternate means of time travel.  The mechanics of it are not stable and by my example show it to be unhealthy also.  I feel weak now even though at this time period I actually should be quite healthy.  Theres an apparent overlap of time lines that can be considered quite contagious.  Its also apparent my toddler based self is feeling the ill effects as well.  There is no free time during this temporary stay and my time here is filled with troubles.  For this reason I feel it isnt a good idea to progress to long conversations on this group.  Besides its almost impossible for me to access this server.

I wouldn't know if you were the real Pam asking me this question. A public place is not a good idea to have your personal information posted.  I was thinking as I traveled home it wasnt a good idea for our relationship to blossom and then become abruptly uprooted.  I am sincerely sorry for all the sorrows I left you with.  See we arent much smarter or suave in the future either. Hopefully you are the Pam I knew.  If not she may very well read these archives at a later date.  I reluctantly say Pam that all the checking up you did on me after my depature had saddened me more than you can possibly realize. After all we have been through together after such lengthy chats you still sought to check for my authencity.  Have I lacked credibility in your eyes?  For this reason it is not well to have long distance relationships obviously.  I again am truly sorry. • An organization calling itself the John Titor Foundation (aka "Front St. Productions") that is believed to be publicly represented by an attorney named Larry Haber has been pimping itself as being associated with John's mother. I don't believe that claim because Titor made it very clear that one of his top priorities was the protection of his family through anonymity. If his mother actually could be so airheaded as to endanger her young son's life and her own freedom on our worldline by exposing herself in this way (the Feds would have no trouble tracking her down, just follow the money) then at least we ought to expect something really new from this outfit. But all there seems to be is a rather amateurish rehashing of the existing Titor material for profit. For example there is this kitsch page at www.cafeshops.com/johntitor and another attempt at crass commercialism at www.digizaar.com/digizaar/ArtistView.do?artistId=1070. Even Pamela said the John Titor Foundation failed the Secret Song Test, although it seems they may have flimflammed her by other means into thinking that they may be genuine. But if they were genuine, what happened to the departure video that was supposed to be made public? Shouldn't they have produced that by now? Oops, after they read this we can expect some pathetic excuse to be forthcoming!

  It would be a tragedy for an imposter or group of scammers to co-opt and dilute Titor's story for their own agenda, so the John Titor Foundation should be viewed with extreme skepticism. Time will tell . . .

 

Deliberate Deceptions: "Titor's time machine is just an old radiation monitor"
Claims made by "debunkers" are sometimes stated as fact as if that's the end of the story. One such claim is that Titor's time machine is just an old Cold War era radiation monitor, and that claim is sometimes conflated (see http://www.curezone.com/forums/m.asp?f=172&i=165) with the fact that some of his photos of the time machine actually do include a radiation monitor -- the small yellow box with a handle that rests on top of the purported time machine in the photo below:

The 700 series of Civil Defense / FEMA radiation monitors can be seen at www.radmeters4u.com (it's smart to own one these days, if you decide to buy one or more from radmeters4u.com, or even better one of the tiny keychain detectors from nukalert.com (they're run by the same people), note that you can get $10 off each unit if you mention the discount offered at nuclearsurvivalist.com). The model CD V-700 has an external Geiger-Mueller tube that clips to a metal handle and can measure low dose radiation up to 50 mR/hr. The model shown in Titor's photos does not appear to be the CD V-700 because its handle is not metal-colored and there is no external GM tube present. Titor's model could have been any of the other higher-range 700 series but it appears to me to be a CD V-720 because of the profile of the lower left front corner of the unit shown in Titor's photo above (pointing finger) which appears to have a similar 'cutaway' section as the CD V-720. Because it's likely to be a high range rad monitor (0 - 500 Rads/hr) instead of a low-range unit (0-50 mRads/hr) that could indicate that there is a considerable risk of radiation exposure from timetraveling with a GE Army Model C204 Gravity Distortion Time Displacement Unit. If you were to absorb 500 rads in one day's time, chances are about 50-50 you'd survive, though it could take you several weeks or even a couple of months before you died a very unpleasant death.

It would not be wise to try to infer too much from Titor's photo however, in the first place because the detail is not real clear and in the second place, if Titor is genuine it could be a different model altogether, made in the future. These are sturdy units originally made by Victoreen but there are other manufacturers now. They have been built since at least the 1960's and while improvements have been made over the years to improve the electronics (the older ones used to take several batteries, some of the real old pre-Victoreen ones used tubes and required special batteries that probably aren't even made any more, newer units today require only one or two ordinary 'D' cells) their external appearance has remained more or less constant. I can't think of any reason why the external appearance of a similar unit built around 2036 would need to be any different.

There is nothing about the larger toolbox-style device in Titor's photos which he claimed is his time machine that resembles radiation detection equipment to me, and I have seen and used a lot of radiation detection equipment of one type or another. If it is an 'air monitor' as some self-styled debunkers have claimed (never with any photo, diagram, manual, model number, manufacturer, nothing), there are no obvious ports for the intake and outflow of air, and there is no particular reason why a VIP fallout shelter would need specially-built 'air monitoring' equipment in the first place, as some have suggested (again without ever producing any documentation). The regular 700-series rad meters ought to do that job quite well, particularly the low-range CD V-700 which might be used to check filtered air entering a shelter. If Titor's time machine is really an old radiation monitor as some debunkers have claimed, let them produce some proof of it. Otherwise, simply accepting their specious claim without proof is no less a manifestation of gullibility than believing in John Titor's story without proof.

Remember that some people have reasons to feel very threatened by Titor's story, and some of them may wish to see the story debunked even if they secretly believe it to be true (see national security implications). Keep an open mind and demand real proof from "debunkers"!
